Hi, my name is Danielle and I am at college. I am looking at my next steps, so me and my tutors decided that a supported internship would be best for me, which means that I do two days at college and then the other two or three days in a charity shop to help me build my confidence in the workplace.
When they told me, I was starting I was overthinking in my head about all of the things that could go wrong, so I was really nervous and anxious.
I got the bus there and when I got there I was met by Jackie, who is the person that managed the supported internships. She told me that everything was going to be okay and took me to meet the lady that runs the shop.
She was really friendly, and once she spoke to me, I felt a little bit more comfortable. She showed me what to do and then I started to price up clothes and pillows.
Despite my anxieties, the people were really friendly, helpful and talkative, so although I still had some worries, I felt better about going, so am going to go back for another couple weeks to see how it goes, as it’s good to get more experience.
