Marcus Rashford is a professional football player for Manchester United and social campaigner, he was born on 31st of October 1997. He organised a campaign to end child food poverty. He made the headlines in October 2019 with his 'In the Box' campaign with Selfridges to make food boxes for the homeless.
In 2020 he teamed with FareShare to deliver food to children in the Greater Manchester area who weren't receiving free school meals. He came up with the idea of a campaign for free school meals during the holidays to help families with low incomes which prompted changes to the government view about the extension of free school meals over the summer holidays, after MPs had decided to stop it from happening.
His work has been recognised with several awards and he has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours list and got a BBC Sports Personality of the Year expert panel special award – and he will be awarded a gold Blue Peter badge. Other celebrities have donated to food banks, and YouTuber Ladbaby has released three singles with donations going to the Trussell Trust.
Marcus decided to get involved because when he was a young child his mother had to work multiple jobs to put food on the table. She sometimes skipped meals for herself so that Marcus and his siblings could be fed. In September 2020 he announced he set up a child food poverty task force in collaboration with several UK food shops, manufactures, charities and delivery companies. He has also promoted independent cafes, individual people and local businesses that were selling free food on his Twitter account. For what he achieved with social campaigning he has been recognised for all his hard work. He signed up with Jay Z Roc Nation entertainment agency and has a mural dedicated to him in Manchester. He has achieved a lot at 23 and deserves all the success with free school meals and changing the government.
