It’s coming up to that time again and the Christmas decorations will soon be all around,
But there is a different feel to the holidays this year, the normal festivities cannot be found.
You open your door on Christmas Eve wishing so much that it has snowed,
Instead are some Christmas carollers singing to you from across the road.
For Christmas Day you remember that last year you had your whole family turn up at your door,
But this year you open it to see your not so merry social gathering of just four.
The children are becoming excited to see Santa and to let him know that they haven’t been mean,
But instead of sitting on his lap their little noses are pressed against a screen.
The economic crisis has left parents with less money, but it’s okay have no fear,
Santa may be a little delayed as he has to self-isolate this year.
And when he finally resurfaces, he’ll go from house to house in his red hazmat suit,
Paired with his big sack and huge black boots you’ll think he’s robbing your loot.
Deck the halls with boughs of sanitized holly and try to keep the entire household merry,
Make sure you conceal your persistent cough when you smell the scent of cinnamon and berry.
Bring along your festive masks and please wash your hands before you touch our beautiful tree,
Leave a seat between the guests at the table and pass the roasties over the screen to me.
The only positive this year is if you have covid-19 when you sit down to eat,
You can smile politely at your Grandma but can’t really taste her overcooked meat.
Maybe there’ll be a small bit of hope this year and hopefully not everything fails,
You’ve still got after Christmas, oh wait... I bet there’s no January sales.
Say cheers to hoping Christmas 2021 is going to be much more fun,
But for this year of 2020, Merry coronavirus Christmas everyone!!
