Get to know iDare's team members. Our new, regular feature asks sensible and random questions to find out what makes them tick!
The first person to be asked questions is Fiona, the Platform Project's new Youth Engagement and Development Officer.
What does your job involve?
I'm here to support young people in their developmental journey, making sure they get the most out of their time here and, at the end of their program, feel confident to take their next steps – whether that’s setting up their own business, employment, work experience, or volunteering.
What skills do you think you can bring to the platform?
I’ve worked with young people for over 10 years, for example running the enrichment program at New College that helped develop skills, confidence and self-esteem. I’ve organised numerous volunteer trips to Kenya for students and I had my own business organising group travel to Kenya, India, and Vietnam. I hope that my experiences and passions of working with young people and running my own business can be useful within my role.
What are your hobbies?
I absolutely love to travel, meet people from different communities and learn about how different people live. I also like a bit of adventure, so I can be found jumping out of planes, white water rafting and trekking. I'm also guilty of watching too much TV, especially soaps and reality TV!
What is the craziest thing you have ever done?
Probably climbing the Himalayas – not once but 3 times! First time was in just a pair of sandals. Not advised.
Favourite food?
Everything!
Favourite Music?
Anything cheesy. Mcfly, One Direction, Little Mix…
What is your favourite inspirational quote?
“Great things never come from comfort zones".
The #iDARE youth publication is a a fully funded project open to any young people aged 13-20 (or up to 24 if disabled) based around Swindon.
