How it helped me
In my personal experience, art helped me get through some tough times in my life. Mostly my school years when I felt stressed from exams and the work in general, taking up art opened up a new world for me and allowed me to create a few friends who also took up that same hobby. Using my mind in creative ways to come up with my own original characters and art styles provided a good distraction from the stress of my day-to-day school life. Nowadays I don’t make art anymore, but I am thinking of taking it up one more time!
Most importantly I think that with everything that’s going on in the world at the moment, Art can provide good distraction from that, and give you a happier outlook on life. With the technology we have now it has made it easier than ever to make great looking art, even with something as simple as your smart phone with the correct apps installed.
All I needed was my phone and few apps to create my art work, which meant it was easily accessible where ever I was and whenever I felt like coming up with something. I was also inspired by many other digital artists and I wanted to develop the skills they had.

Here is the app "FlippaClip" which can be used on most smart phones to create stop motion animations!
I found that drawing my art digitally was the way to go, and the tools available to me let me create some brilliant work, I had much more freedom than if I was to draw on paper. I not only drew characters; I also had a go at making animations and posted them onto my own YouTube channel. The animations I created were never insanely popular but it gave me more variety and gained me a new skill, even if my animations weren’t the best. After a while my art began to improve immensely; and so, I decided to try drawing my ideas up on paper. I was always up to trying new things with my art. I always felt motivated and enjoyed myself while creating my art and I made sure to push myself.
I wanted to gain a short following with my art so I chose to create an Instagram account where I would post all my work and people could comment on it and give me feedback, there was always room for improving. I decided to stick with Instagram seeing as gaining a large following on YouTube was almost impossible. I enjoyed sharing my art to the world and getting praise for it, it made me feel that I had something going for me other than school and it made me feel much happier. Eventually quite a few people from school came across my Instagram and were impressed with my work.
Different forms of art to get into
There is a plethora of different art forms besides drawing or painting. Filmmaking, photography, music production, sculpting and many more are all forms of art! So, it’s always good to explore ideas and get invested in at least one of them!
Why I think other people should take up art
Art is a valuable skill and you can create a living from it if you put in the time and energy to perform at a professional level. It is also good as a casual hobby to take up during your free time and helps you improve your skills, and it can motivate you to improve yourself. Plus, there are dozens and dozens of art communities to get involved in and make new friends if you’re someone who’s feeling lonely.
