My name is Alex Harker, I joined The Platform Project about 2 months ago, and my experience here has been beneficial and very enjoyable. Everyone is super friendly and understanding, they helped to guide me in the right direction and I feel that I’m now on the right track thanks to them. I feel much more motivated in myself and my ability to try new things. The Platform has helped me build myself up and talk to other young people and form healthy relationships. I appreciate everything The Platform has done for me and for other young people in Swindon. I’m looking forward to where the next few months take me and what my future will look like.
Before joining, my life was uneventful and I had nothing to work towards, I had no plans and overall, I was in a bad place and I wanted to stay in bed all day. I lacked any motivation, I then decided to get help from the job centre after months of job searching with no luck. My work coach then suggested I join The Platform Project; it met my interest and I immediately knew this was going to be great.
Since joining, I have written my own blogs, posted them online on the #iDare website, and have created social media posts to advertise them. Personally, I don’t have a clear idea as to what I want to do in the future, although I am hopeful. All I know for now is that I’d like to pursue something that involves writing, it is a newfound skill of mine thanks to the Project and it would be something I'd love to wake up doing every day.
In addition, I am now able to work in a team, communicate my ideas to others and help my teammates out whenever needed. Currently, I’m working on my own website for potential employers to see and have something more than my CV to go off of.
Here at The Platform Project, you are provided with everything you need to take on the role as an intern. For example, if you don’t own a laptop to do your work from home then you can be loaned one by the kind staff here. In the office: food and drinks are also available in the staff kitchen. There are also meeting rooms for any group meetings you organize.
You have so much freedom here, you are recommended tasks based on your interests and any previous experiences you’ve had. I believe everyone deserves the chance to work here and obtain all the support they need, there are many activities here and you can choose to strive for whatever you want and gain the experience you need to launch your career. The Platform Project helps you to reach your goal, add valuable skills to your CV, and gives you the opportunity to meet new faces along the way.
From just 2 months of experience at The Platform Project so far, I highly recommended you give it a shot. Especially if you’re a young person struggling to start a career and wanting to gain some work experience in a professional work environment.
