As I’m new to the art world and wanting to network my name out so I attended the artists opening exhibition event, to meet the artists that have displayed there work in Mams Gallery.
All the artwork displayed was amazing but the ones that really caught my eye was the painting called “Rise” by Shanni Ong, seeing it up close I really liked the way she has used the warm colours in the background. It really draws you in and then having the two silhouette birds in the painting just really brings the whole piece together, as otherwise it could of just been the background and that wouldn’t of been eye catching.
There was also a Artist who made brilliant figure statues out of scraps of coppper which was nearly life size, and they really is something I have never seen before. All the fine delicate work of the piece really shows of all the features of the human body, and the work I saw of these two children was actually sold to the family of those two children which was going to show up that evening to collect it.
I met this lovely woman Called Helen Which gave me some really good advice for my landscape painting. The advice was instead of leaving the horizon line just flat and boxlike, if your working with charcoal or pencil use your finger to slightly smudge across to give it more of a natural horizon. But if your using acrylic then get a wet wipe and gently do the same with the paint, and then the colours will slightly mix to be like its going on forever. This advice I will use for my future work with landscape painting to see how they turn out compared to my old versions.
Overall the whole experience of going to the event was extraordinary I loved every second and met some really interesting people, I would advice if you’re a artist Is to go along to one and meet people you never know they might give you some advice for something your struggling with.
