Hi my name is Danielle.
I am talking about how STEP helped me with my confidence and meeting new people and how to learn to control my anger.
What is STEP?
STEP is a group that helps people who are having a difficult time with their lives or have specific behavior needs. You take part in a group to work on your issues.
How did you feel before going?
I felt scared and nervous, I didn’t know what I was expecting when I got there.
What did you do and what was it like?
When I started STEP, I met a load of new friends and we were doing a lot of work on anger management. We were thinking of things that will help when we are angry - we made a glitter bottle and we got a stress ball. It helped me out a lot - I knew I could talk to the people there and I knew I could meet new people that understood me.
How did it help?
After going to step I have made a lot of progress - I am able to talk to people about my problems and able to slowly meet new people.
Any advice?
- If you feel anxious, still go every week because it makes it easier.
- Talk to the people that run the sessions - they’re friendly and they don’t push you to do things you don’t want to do, but they let you try new things.
