We have a great team of young people working on our #iDare magazine, and some are particularly interesting! One of them is a young man called Dylan Williams,
Dylan has been working with us for a couple of months now, and he is a bit of a technical genius! He does a lot of the video editing and images for us. but he can also do some amazing things like coding and creating games, so I asked him some interview questions to find out a bit more about him.
Dylan, I can see that you’re into graphics – could you give us a bit of an insight into how you got into doing it and how old you were when you started?
I have always liked drawing, and started to do some photography when I was 11. I chose Affinity Photo after researching photo editing software for my Mac PC. I have also used Photoshop, Photoscape X, Pixelmator, GIMP and Affinity Photo. I purchased a drawing tablet (Ugee M708) basic version. I have now purchased a better version with a screen to see your drawing as you put the pen on it (XP-Pen Artist 12). I have also tried 3D modelling although some good outcomes I didn’t enjoy as much as normal drawings. I also have Affinity Designer a Vector graphics application which I use a lot for icons and images for my projects.
Last session I saw the game of Snake that you’d made (which was amazing by the way!) How did you get into
coding? And what do you recommend for readers that might want to also get into it?
The snake game was written in web technologies, mainly Javascript. I started with some website development but have interests in lots of different coding aspects:
What sort of programs do you use to create your images and games?
You’ve clearly got some skills in this are – what’s next for you? Is there anything that you’ve wanted to do but haven’t been able to?
I’ve created my first local website, but I want to host it, so need to learn more about web servers.
I also want to share my Photography online using my website. I’ve already helped out creating icons for an events company, and hope to do some website development for them.
The #iDARE youth publication is a a fully funded project open to any young people aged 13-20 (or up to 24 if disabled) based around Swindon.
