Over the last week, my social media feeds have been full of tributes to TV presenter Caroline Flack, who sadly took her own life at the age of 40. Caroline looked like she had it all, a £1.2 million pay check for Love Island, (currently, one of the top reality shows in the UK) loving family and friends, a successful career. However, she was just about to become the face of something so negative it would eventually end her life.
On 12th December 2019, Caroline was arrested for domestic abuse against her boyfriend Lewis Burton and from there the press attack on Flack began.
Headlines like 'She Tried to Kill Me' were published and she was made the poster girl of female perpetrators of domestic violence, even though her boyfriend wanted the charges dropped.
If this was me being cut off from my support network, being slammed by the press, losing my job, reading negative comments about myself on social media, I'd begin to believe.
It's unfortunate that editors of newspapers profit from a person's tragedy just so they can make money.
I have always seen people's lives as a 'perfect picture' on social media but you don't see behind the scenes, everyone is human, everyone makes mistakes.
My thoughts go out to Caroline's family and friends and to anyone suffering with mental health issues, you can get help.
I will end this article with a message to the press, celebrities are humans, please be kind.
