Work placement in lockdown

#iDare...ToReturnToWorkExperience

Hi, my name is Tyler Ody and I am a 19-year-old autistic student at Horizons college. My last article with iDare was about my work experience with my local radio station Swindon 105.5 and Swindon Link Magazine.

Before lockdown the things I used to do at Swindon 105.5 was producing, recording and editing features that I write about my favourite popstars to go on the airwaves or reviewing albums which I pre-recorded weeks before it goes on air. What I used to do at the Swindon Link Magazine before lockdown is write articles to go online or in the magazine such as Swindon 105.5 celebrating its 12th birthday https://swindonlink.com/10925/12-years-on-air-for-swindon-105.5-/ and I also wrote articles for its sister magazine The Ocelot which is an entertainment magazine.

I have really enjoyed my work experiences for last few years as I have been with Swindon 105.5 for three years and with the link for nearly a year.

My work placements were put on hold when lockdown came in.  It made me feel upset that it was put on hold, but I know at the end of the day it was to keep us safe.

I used to go to Swindon 105.5 on a Tuesday and the Link on Wednesday which was a good routine in my college week.

What I used to love about going to my work placements is the people. I got to meet new people at both work placements and got to do a review at Five Guys burger restaurant with the Link  when it opened in February.

The thing I miss about work placements when it went into lockdown is the colleagues of both work placements and writing articles and producing features. Missing work experience made me realise how grateful I am for the opportunities I got. Work placements probably won’t start until November or next year as it could take some time for the placements to reopen. What I am going to do differently is produce features on different topics as well as music at Swindon 105.5.

Things I would  like to do in the future is interview Jamie Hill from the Link magazine and Shirley Ludford from Swindon 105.5  or someone from the Swindon Advertiser for one of #iDare magazines. Another thing I want to do is work in journalism or media in some shape or form. I learnt how to write articles in my own words and I am becoming more confident in opinions.
